BLOG: A Dolls House Emporium from Magpies-Miniatures.net

Posted on 3:39pm Tuesday 28th Aug 2012
So many of our customers have wonderful bars (as touched on in a previous Blog post), others interested in specialist shops, and we find many customers interested in building Dolls House emporiums - shops which sell a large variety of goods, more like a department store or supermarket. We have a specialist 'Shop' section on our website for dedicated items, but really the entire catalogue of goods we offer here at Magpies Miniatures would be well fitting to a dolls house emporium.
Ready to shop? Let's see what we can rustle up.
Large Shop Shelves, WhiteSecond things first, (presuming there's already a place for the shop to go, which would be the first thing...) you're going to need some kind of display shelving or tabletops - or both! This white shelving unit would look wonderful in many settings, including smaller specialist sweet shops, or even larger emporiums. Personally speaking, when I see this, it reminds me of the original adaptation of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory- The scenes set in Bill's Sweet Shop where Charlie finds the Golden Ticket!
Watch this clip to see the shop I have in mind:

There's of course other shelving units, counter tops and display cabinets available for your shops in the relevant categories. For a quick link to them, Click HERE
Remember, emporiums stock a vast majority of products, but as there's so many out there on Magpies Miniatures, I'm going to stick with my theme, and have a look at all the sweet treats, candy and scrumdiddlyumptious bars (well, almost) we have available to fill this wonderful shop display.
Biscuit / Sweets in Jars, assorted, priced each
These little jars are a quick and easy way to get stocked up with goodies. They're pre-filled with an assortment of treats from Oreo's to bonbons- and the silicone stopper is removable to take out any of the sweets for your scenes- perhaps having a couple in a paper bag on the counter top would really bring the shop to life. Only £2.20 eachSet of 3 Empty Jars
Prefer to fill your own containers? We have a whole section of them, HERE, including this set of 3 miniature glass bottles with stoppers, each measuring approx Height 25mm : Width 10mm : Depth 10mm. These bottles are currently in the spotlight for Halloween, to put potions and ingredients for your cauldrons in, but why stop there- put your plans to practice and create something wonderful. Did I mention they're only £1.58 for 3? A fantastic little deal.
So besides jarred sweets, it'd be nice to have some other sweets too, to really make the shop come alive with colour, shapes and textures- just like Billy's shop in the scene above.
Lollipops, pack of 6How about a lollypop? 6 of them!?
Rolo TubeRolos? (Question is, do you love anyone enough to give them your last Rolo?) The photographs of the bars of chocolate really don't do them justice (and will be something we will be addressing in the near future)- but the attention to detail on these is really quite impressive!
We have lots of new stock awaiting to be photographed and put on to the website, so please make sure you check the New Arrivals category to keep an eye on what's coming! (A little insider secret, there will be some Bargain Boxes coming very shortly, consisting of some one-off pieces we have in stock, some end of line goods, and other little bits and pieces we're sure you're going to love- keep your eyes peeled on the New Arrivals page, and make sure you 'like' our Facebook page to keep updated with the latest! Shh...it's a secret.)
Anyway, where was I?
Black Scales
Metal Shop TillCounters and stock accounted for, customers are going to need somewhere to purchase their products, and of course someone to serve them. A quick search for "till" will show you the selection of cash registers we have in stock, such as this wonderful little piece with an opening cash drawer.
We also have a nice selection of weighing scales too, a necessity for any sweet shop, greengrocer or emporium.

And as far as a shopkeeper goes, I think this lovely little chap is a suitable candidate for the role. What do you think?
Butler / Shopkeeper in apron
So, there's a little of the basics of what you could do with your dollhouse emporium! There's lots more to look at to fill the rest of the shop, so I'll leave you to click and browse away.
Happy Shopping!
